Sony has unveiled the PlayStation 5 Pro, calling it the “most advanced and innovative console hardware to date.” The new gaming console from Sony promises to deliver substantial improvements in graphic fidelity and performance.The key changes are a bigger graphics processing unit (GPU), enhanced ray tracing capabilities and AI-powered upscaling technologies.

Sony PlayStation 5 Pro gets a price tag of $699.99 (Rs 58,000 approx) for the digital version. and will it be available in select regions from November 7 this year. The Sony PlayStation 5 Pro price in India and launch date will be revealed later.

PS5 Pro preorders will begin on Thursday, September 26, 2024. The console will come equipped with a 2TB SSD, a DualSense wireless controller, and a pre-installed copy of “Astro’s Playroom.” The base model lacks a disc drive, but customers can buy one separately.

The new GPU on the PS 5 Pro offers 67 percent more processing and 28 percent quicker memory, allowing it to render up to 45 percent faster than the conventional PS5, Sony mentioned during the event.

The PlayStation 5 Pro has Sony’s PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), an AI upscaling method to enhance image quality and frame rates. Sony enhanced the new console’s ray tracing capabilities to deliver dramatic light reflection and refraction. “This allows the rays to be cast at double, and sometimes triple, the speeds of the current PS5 console,” Sony said in a blog post.

Sony intends to reduce the necessity for gamers to select between quality and performance levels. At launch, over 50 games will be available as “PS5 Pro Enhanced” versions. This includes both first-party titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and The Last of Us Part II Remastered, as well as third-party games like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Assassin’s Creed: Shadows.

The PS5 Pro will also include a “Game Boost” option for more than 8,500 backwards-compatible PS4 and PS5 games, which could improve performance and stability. Certain PS4 games’ resolution can be improved using an Enhanced Image Quality feature.

The new console is the same height and width as the original PS5, as well as the disc-less model. It is equipped with a 2TB solid-state drive, which doubles the storage capacity of previous generations. Additionally, the PS5 Pro is compatible with Wi-Fi 7, variable refresh rates, and 8K resolutions.

The PS5 Pro works with existing PS5 peripherals, such as the PlayStation VR2 and DualSense controllers. The physical proportions are consistent with the width of the current PS5 model but retain the height of the original PS5 to accommodate the improved components.
