OnePlus is set to expand its foldable phone lineup with the anticipated launch of the Open 2, expected next year. According to a recent leak by Digital Chat Station, the new foldable device will feature a significant upgrade, which talks about featuring a 6,000 mAh battery, a much bigger unit than the first-gen Open foldable
The leak specifically mentioned the upgrade for the OPPO Find N5. However, since the merger between OnePlus and Oppo, the two devices have largely mirrored each other, with Oppo focusing on the Chinese market and OnePlus covering the global market.
Oppo’s Find N3 foldable phone was released as OnePlus Open in the global market. So this new Oppo’s foldable device, the Find N5, might be the OnePlus Open 2 outside China. Also, it is expected to be launched in 2025 Q1 with Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset.
The new battery could be the result of OnePlus's new Glacier Battery technology, which the company recently launched in China in collaboration with CATL. The technology offers silicon-based batteries that are more efficient, durable and of more capacity in the same physical size. The first phone to use this technology was the China-only OnePlus Ace 3 Pro, which packed a huge 6,100 mAh battery.
If the rumours are true, then the upcoming OnePlus Open 2 might see competition with other high-end devices like the vivo X Fold 3 Pro and the Honor Magic V3 which also have Si/Co batteries with 5,700 mAh and 5,150 mAh battery capacity respectively.
The OnePlus Open was launched last year in two colour variants i.e. Emerald Dusk with a matte glass design and Vulture Black with a leather-like finish. It comes with a 6.31-inch cover display and a 7.82-inch inner display. Both displays are based on LTPO 3.0 technology and have a refresh rate of 120Hz.
The OnePlus Open comes with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. For photography enthusiasts, has a Hasselblad-tuned triple rear camera system including- 64MP telephoto sensor, 48MP main camera and 48MP ultra-wide camera.
Currently, the OnePlus Open costs Rs 1,39,999 in India for the 16GB + 512GB variant where you also have the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro and the newly launched Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 available for buyers.
