Digital streaming service Hulu is preparing to launch two virtual reality shows this fall by way of news program "The Big Picture" and comedy series "Virtually Mike and Nora."
Nora Kirkpatrick of "The Office" (US edition) and "Saturday Night Live" writer Mike O'Brien are behind "Virtually Mike and Nora," which aims to explore a new dimension in comedy necessitated by the 360° filming format.
Hosting "The Big Picture: News in Virtual Reality" is Bryn Mooser, co-founder of production company RYOT, and the show will be "the first of its kind" and "really built to the VR headset," Variety reported.
Five episodes of "Virtually Mike and Nora" and ten of "The Big Picture" have been ordered.
Hulu's VR app is available for the Oculus Rift VR headset, which works with powerful computers, and the Gear VR, a headset caddy for the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 and S7 ranges. Oculus VR and Samsung collaborated on the production of their respective devices.
