Bhopal: The BJP in Madhya Pradesh seems confident of securing the power as Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and BJP state head Rakesh Singh congratulated each other for the ‘fourth consecutive win’ during an election committee meeting at BJP headquarters on Saturday.
After returning from his three-day trip to Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve late afternoon, the chief minister went to the party head office in Bhopal to join his party colleagues in celebration.
The media was also allowed in the meeting hall where the party state head Rakesh Singh congratulated CM Shivraj for his “able leadership which was guiding the party towards a historical fourth successive win in Madhya Pradesh.”
Chouhan returned the favour by honouring Rakesh Singh for "leading the team of lakhs of workers who broke all the bounds to work in party’s favour in polls."
The party office bearers also lauded the chief minister and the party head for their ‘gigantic’ efforts.
The party mood seemed to be in sharp contrast to the sentiments prevailing ahead of exit poll results where the party leaders exhibited cautious response.
“On the basis of the feedback from the party workers and out of our own confidence, we can claim we are winning in MP,” cabinet minister Narottam Mishra told the media after the meeting. Trashing the exit polls, Mishra asked everyone to believe that the BJP was coming back to power in Madhya Pradesh under the leadership of Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
The minister claimed that the first time candidates would be briefed by CM Shivraj over EVMs, VVPATs and counting process during an audio conference. Senior leaders would also have been given division wise responsibilities.
Sources, however, claimed the meet discussed exit poll results. CM Shivraj also sought polling feedback from the party leaders and reportedly assured them that the BJP would come back to power.
Earlier in the day, CM Shivraj has claimed he was the biggest surveyor who was among the public 24x7 and claimed the BJP was winning in MP. Later in Bhopal, he affirmed his views saying there was no anti-incumbency rather it was pro-incumbency in MP.
MPCC president Kamal Nath in perhaps first response to exit polls issued a statement saying CM Shivraj may consider himself second to none but on December 11, he would have to accept none is beyond the public.
“Shivraj government’s farewell is necessary for the jobless youths, farmers, women’s pride and all the sections of the society,” Nath responded to Chouhan’s earlier statement as to why BJP government was necessary in MP.
Ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, exit polls on Friday predicted a tight finish between the BJP and the Congress in Madhya Pradesh.
