Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat on Saturday met members of his cabinet in a bid to defuse the political crisis in the state.
Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Assembly Speaker GS Kunjwal will forward a report on the developments that took place on Friday night. Nine Congress rebel MLAs on Friday joined hands with the opposition BJP to stake claim to form the government in Uttarakhand.
The report says that the finance bill was passed with a voice vote. The demand for division was made after the house was adjourned. A video recording of the proceedings was also forwarded to the governor Governor K K Paul.
Chief Minister Harish Rawat however, maintained he had majority in the House. A three-member BJP delegation met Governor K K Paul late on Friday night, seeking dismissal of the Rawat government.
Dissent against the leadership of Rawat had been simmering for several months, with a section of the Congress MLAs questioning his style of functioning.
Earlier on Saturay, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat said he would resign if he loses majority on the floor of the House.
Dismissing claims that the Congress government in Uttarakhand was in minority, Rawat said he was ready to prove majority. The Uttarakhand Chief Minister also warned of action against the rebel Congress leaders if they don't accept their mistakes.
This comes even as 28 Bharatiya Janata Party MLAs, along with 10 Congress rebels, arrived in the national capital to meet the BJP top brass, including party president Amit Shah.
The 10 Congress rebels include former chief minister Vijay Bahuguna, Harak Singh Rawat, Pradeep Batra, Shailendra Singhal, Umesh Chandra Kau, Subodh Uniyal, Shaila Rani Rawat, Amrita Rawat and Kunwar Pranav.
BJP MLA Ajay Bhatt, the Leader of Opposition in the Uttarakhand Assembly, was also a part of the delegation. The Governor told them that action would be taken after gathering sufficient details.
According to the sources, the BJP staked claim to form the government with the support of the rebel Congress MLAs.
