Actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha has sparked a fresh controversy by praising Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) arch rival and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Taking to Twitter, the BJP leader said that he was "humbled and touched" by Nitish Kumar's "glowing compliments". The Bihar Chief Minister had called him a "pride of Bihar".

Sinha further said that he was "fond of" Kumar as a friend and "a much respected leader of the masses", adding that tough they could "differ in political views but there can be no personal enmity".

In a series of tweets, the BJP leader also criticised the decision of Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to suspend 25 Congress MPs.

He tweeted:

The BJP MP from Patna Sahib, who has often voiced his opposition to the BJP leadership, later issued a clarification on his tweet about the expulsion of MPs, saying he was just expressing his "sadness that things have come to such a pass that the honorable and respected Speaker had to take such a strong decision".

Sinha clarified that he did not intend to question the decision of Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, calling it "final & binding".
