Telangana CM spends crores on maha yagam, says not a penny taken from state exchequer
About 4,000 priests and 1,500 Rutwiks are performing the rituals in the mega event.

Even as thousands of people are reeling under drought in Telangana, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is organising a Ayutha Maha Chandi Yagam on a scale that is unprecedented. The ritual is reportedly being organised at a whopping Rs 7 crore at the Chief Minister's farmhouse in Erravelli village in Medak district.

With questions being raised on who is funding the bill for the ritual, the Chief Minister has clarified saying that not a single penny has been taken from the state exchequer for the ritual.

The five-day ritual for 'Lok Kalyanam' (universal prosperity) and 'Vishwa Shanthi' (universal peace) has begun today. About 4,000 priests and 1,500 Rutwiks are performing the rituals in the mega event.

A host of VIPs including President Pranab Mukerjee and Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu are reportedly attending the ritual which is being conducted for world peace and harmony.

Rao's decision to conduct the ritual has drawn flak from all quarters. Congress's Digvijaya Singh tweeted, "Crores being spent by KCR for Chandi Yagna while farmers commit suicides. He says it is his money, if so he should explain his source of income. Instead of spending on Yagna, shouldn't he have given this money to families of farmers who committed suicide. I strongly condemn it."
