Sushma never did a criminal act, says Gadkari, hints at dragging Rahul to court
A day after Rahul Gandhi accused Swaraj of criminal offence, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari hinted at filing a defamation case against the Congress leader.

The attack by Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj over Lalit Modi controversy does not seem to have gone down well with the government.

A day after the Gandhi scion accused Swaraj of criminal offence, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday hinted at filing a defamation case against the Congress leader.

Hitting back at Rahul Gandhi, Gadkari pointed that he had used the term criminal even as Swaraj did not violate any law. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader said that Rahul Gandhi must apologise to the nation for his statement.

"Rahul Gandhi used the word criminal against Sushma Swaraj. She has not violated any law," said Gadkari.

"She has not violated any law, she is the ambassador of the country. Rahul Gandhi should apologise to the country, and if he does not, we may file a criminal defamation case against him," he added.

On Thursday, continuing his offensive against the Swaraj, Rahul Gandhi had told mediapersons, "The whole country knows that what the External Affairs Minister has done is a criminal act. When you do a criminal act, you go to jail."

This comes even as Parliament has witnessed a washout on all three days of the Monsoon Session over Lalitgate and Vyapam scam issues. The Congress-led opposition has said that it would not allow any discussion on the issue unless Swaraj was asked to resign.
