New Delhi: There seems to be some hope for Uttar Pradesh Chief Minsiter Mulayam Singh Yadav as the Supreme Court posted the hearing of his review petition to Friday.
Yadav had on Monday filed a piled a plea seeking a stay on the CBI probe in the alleged disproportionate assets case, that he and his family has illegal wealth till elections are over in the state.
A Bench of Justice A R Lakshmanan and Justice Altamas Kabir also agreed to hear the review petition in an open court.
The decision to hear the review petition in an open court marks a significant departure from established conventions as such petitions are normally heard in the chambers of the judges.
The Bench agreed to go for the hearing in the open court after senior counsel Mukul Rohatagi pleaded that the matter be heard in public as it was an issue of considerable importance.
The Bench had on Tuesday refused to hear his plea seeking the stay of the CBI inquiry till the conclusion of the ensuing polls in the state.
Mulayam, in his petition, had said that he did not trust the CBI and wanted an independent authority headed by retired judge of the Supreme Court or a High Court to probe the allegations.
