New Delhi: A local court on Friday allowed the plea of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha chief Shibu Soren, serving a life term in Delhi's Tihar's Jail for the murder of his secretary, to be lodged in Jamtara prison.

Soren's counsel Sanjeev Kumar moved the plea that he be lodged in Jamtara jail as he has to appear before the court again on January 16, the next date for the his appearance in connection with the 1975 Chirrudih massacre case.

Soren is one of the 26 people charged with inciting a mob that killed 11 people at Chirrudih under Narayanpur police station in Jamtara on January 23, 1975.

His counsel also argued that since a decision on the Shashinath Jha murder case, for which Soren was serving life term in Delhi's Tihar jail, had already been pronounced, the leader should be permitted to be lodged in any jail in Jharkhand to attend other cases.

Soren appeared in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Arun Kumar, who had issued a production warrant against him last month, at around 1200 hrs (IST) and was escorted by Delhi Police.

The court also heard the deposition from a witness, taking the total number of witnesses who had deposed before it in the case to 16.
