Congress president Rahul Gandhi is also almost certain to join the gathering, which will take place on December 10 — a day before the assembly election results are out.

New Delhi: UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi is likely to join the proposed meeting of non-BJP parties on December 10 to further explore the possibility of forging a broad-based front against the saffron party and its allies before the 2019 elections.

Party president Rahul Gandhi is also certain to join the gathering, which will take place a day before the assembly election results are out.

TDP president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who has been making efforts to put together an anti-BJP front, on Saturday said the parties would meet on December 10 to prepare an agenda for the coalition.

"Some asked who the Prime Minister (in anti-BJP front) is. There are many with experience in the front. I don't have desire. I don't want to be (Prime Minister). I said politely. The reason for that is, I have to develop Amaravati. I have to develop the new state," said Naidu, whose Telugu Desam Party was earlier an ally of the BJP.

Observing that there are many experienced leaders who are capable of becoming the Prime Minister, Naidu said he does not aspire to occupy the top post as his task is to develop Amaravati, the capital city of Andhra Pradesh coming up near Vijayawada.

The Andhra Pradesh CM has been meeting a number of leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, NCP’s Sharad Pawar and DMK’s M K Stalin to forge a front against the BJP.

Results of the assembly elections being held in five states of Rajasthan, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram will be announced on December 11.
