SC to hear Rahul Gandhi’s plea seeking quashing of defamation case today
The Supreme Court is slated to take a decision on the issue of constitutional validity of penal provisions dealing with criminal defamation.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court will on Wednesday hear Congress Vice president Rahul Gandhi's appeal to quash a defamation case against him for allegedly blaming Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) for Mahatma Gandhi's assassination.

While addressing a public rally at Sonale in Bhiwandi in March 2014, Rahul had alleged it was "RSS people" who had killed Mahatma Gandhi.

"RSS people killed Gandhiji and today their people (BJP) talk of him...They opposed Sardar Patel and Gandhiji," he had said.

RSS had later filed a complaint against Rahul in Bhiwandi court over the remarks.

The court will also hear proceedings of two defamation cases filed against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Kejriwal had been summoned as an accused by the court in the defamation complaint in which Gadkari had alleged that he was defamed by the AAP leader who had included his name in the party's list of 'India's most corrupt'.

The Supreme Court is slated to take a decision on the issue of constitutional validity of penal provisions dealing with criminal defamation.

Earlier, politicians from rival parties, BJP's Subramanian Swamy had filed a petition seeking to decriminalise the defamation law.
