New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party has retained its hold over Himachal Pradesh by winning two Lok Sabha seats and is leading comfortably in other two seats. In the backdop of the Congress's dismal performance ion the state, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has offered to resign.
Former chief minister and BJP candidate Shanta Kumar defeated Congress candidate Chander Kumar by 1,70,072 votes in the Kangra seat. In the Shimla seat, BJP's Virender Kumar has defeated Congress's Mohan Lal Brakta by 84,817 votes.
In Hamirpur, BJP's Anurag Singh Thakur defeated Congress's Rajinder Singh Rana by 98403 votes.
In Mandi, Ram Swaroop Sharma defeated Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh's wife Pratibha by 39,486 votes.
All the four seats in the state witnessed a multi-cornered battle with the debutante Aam Aadmi Party also fielding its candidates. In last general elections, the BJP won three seats and the Congress bagged one.
A total of 38 candidates were in the fray.
