The BSP raised slogans demanding legislation on a Land Acquisition Bill acceptable to farmers.

New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha was first adjourned briefly and then for the day on Monday, after the Opposition led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stalled the proceedings over the 2G spectrum scam.

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), too, raised slogans demanding legislation on a Land Acquisition Bill acceptable to farmers.

Immediately after Chairman Hamid Ansari read out obituary references, BJP members were up on their feet raising the issue of statements made by former Telecom Minister A Raja in the court.

Ansari adjourned the House till 12 noon as the Opposition started shouting slogans demanding a discussion on the 2G scam.

The BJP demanded the suspension of Question Hour as it wanted to corner the United Progressive Alliance Government, and discuss Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Home Minister P Chidambaram's alleged role in the 2G scam.

They were supported by members of AIADMK who displayed copies of a Tamil newspaper.

BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar moved a notice demanding the suspension of Question Hour in the Rajya Sabha. The party was also upset with Singh's "skeletons in the cupboard" statement and expressed its protest.

The Prime Minister had on Sunday told the Opposition bluntly that it has "too many skeletons in its cupboard", a remark that raised the hackles of the BJP.

BJP MPs also wanted to raise the price rise issue apart from demanding answers from the Prime Minister on the July 13 serial bomb in Mumbai and the subsequent dialogue with Pakistan.
