Lucknow: A day after Union Minister Smriti Irani blamed the Congress for “creating hurdles” in the Ram temple case and said “Ram Bhakts” should ask the party whether its leader wore “janeu” only for election, Congress wrote an open letter to Irani, asking her to reveal her religion first.
In the letter, Amethi district Congress chief Yogendra Mishra has asked Irani to reveal her religion first before asking about Janeu of others. Mishra has also asked why she was silent when people from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar were being attacked in the BJP-ruled Gujarat. The letter also asks the BJP minister to apologise to the people of the state.
The letter questions Irani about the shortage of doctors in Amethi and about the sanctions for Kendriya Vidyalaya, IIIT, Hindustan Papermill and Mega Food Park in the district.
Irani, during her visit to Amethi on Friday, had said, “Congress should not do politics through its lawyers on Ram temple issue, which is matter of faith of people. Its leaders, as lawyers, are creating hurdles in the court. People and Ram bhakts should ask the party whether its leader wore 'janeu' only for polls of three states.”
Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi was supposed to reach Amethi on Friday but had to cancel the programme at the last moment due to the ongoing Parliament session. The sources said Gandhi will now visit his Parliamentary constituency Amethi on January 22 and 23.
