New Delhi: While taking a dig at the Congress policy of "minority appeasement", BJP president Rajnath Singh on Saturday called for a redifinition of the term 'minorities'.

"The term minorities should be redefined and those accounting for more than 10 per cent of the country's population should not be described as minorities," Singh said.

The BJP president made the remark as he set the ball rolling for the Shiv Sena-BJP campaign for the February 1 Mumbai civic polls.

While admitting that the BJP was opposed to the Sachar committee report and the introduction of reservations for Muslims in jobs in Andhra Pradesh, Singh added that the party wanted backward Muslims to get benefits of quota.

Singh alleged that the UPA government had compromised on national security and national pride. He said that by consenting to the Indo-US nuclear deal, the Centre had "bowed before the US".

BJP and the Sena will not allow restraining of India's "nuclear capacity and nuclear autonomy," Singh said.

Singh also hit out at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for his controversial "Muslims first" statement, saying that it was "divisive" and should be recanted.
