Rakhi Sawant says several political parties have approached her to join electioneering in Uttar Pradesh.

Lucknow: The Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh are around the corner and political parties are leaving no stone unturned to woo voters - their latest move being asking item girl-turned-actress Rakhi Sawant to campaign for them.

The controversy queen says several political parties have approached her to join electioneering in Uttar Pradesh, but she turned down the offer. ''I have decided not to join any party at this juncture,'' UNI quoted Rakhi as saying.

"Although a celebrity, I am a normal person. I have no interest in politics,'' she was further quoted.

However, Rakhi stated that if at all she was to enter politics, she would float her own outfit. She added that she was certain that the youth would support her in a big way.

The political parties' invitation is in direct contrast to their earlier take on Rakhi. Activists belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, Bajrang Dal had opposed one of Rakhi's show in October last year.

"We have requested Rakhi not to come to Indore because her performances are provocative and can spoil youngsters," the Indore convener of Bajrang Dal Kailash Bagora stated.

Rakhi shot into limelight after her ''kissing controversy'' with Punjabi singer Mika and her statements in reality show Big Boss.
