New Delhi: The Presidential address - when a Government is being sworn in or at the beginning of the Budget session - is always expected to toe the government line. Last budget session, the President harped on the aam aami agenda.
In her first address to the 15th Lok Sabha, Pratibha Patil’s speech is going to read like the Congress manifesto.
“There are many points in the manifesto that the ministers are considering. In the next few days you will see this, specially in the President's address,” said Tourism Minister, Kumari Selja.
This is not a typical UPA government with the allies showing the way. The Congress is dictating and that was evident in the way the Cabinet meeting was conducted.
Pranab Mukherjee has been asked to go through the draft of the Presidential address and it has almost all the major points of the Congress manifesto.
- Ensuring High levels of defence preparedness
- Police reforms
- Building on the success of NREGA
- Strengthening NRHM and Urban Renewal Mission
- Making Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan (Education for All) accessible to all
- Providing social security
- Expanding welfare schemes for farmers “The Manifesto is our Bible, Quran and Geeta. We will do everything possible to implement it,” says Law Minister Veerappa Moily.
