Pawar eyes PM's post; woos news Fronts
Jayalalithaa, Naveen Patnaik have said that Pawar is suited for the PM's post.

New Delhi: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar is eyeing the prime minister's post with sources telling CNN-IBN that the Maratha strongman hopes to unite the Third and Fourth Fronts to fulfill his ambition if the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance fails to reach the 272 seats.

With UPA and the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance looking set for a photo finish, a Third Front government, despite the cracks in the alliance, cannot be ruled out.

Exit polls have suggested that the Third Front consisting of Left, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), Janata Dal (Secular), Telugu Desam Party all combined together could end up with nearly 100 seats.

Sources say that Pawar has been in constant touch with the all the parties in the Third Front.

If the total seats won by both the NDA and the UPA are less than 200 each, then Pawar will project himself as the prime ministerial candidate with support of the entire Third Front.

Pawar is also in talks with the Fourth Front of Lalu Prasad, Mulayam Singh Yadav and Ram Vilas Paswan with Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh already in touch with the NCP chief.

Already AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa and Biju Janata Dal chief and Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik have said that Pawar is suited to become the prime minister.

Pawar is also being backed by his colleague Purno Sangma, who is also holding a grouse against the Congress for its politics in Meghalaya.

Sangma is influential not just in Meghalaya but also in parts of North East.
