New Delhi: Both Houses of Parliament adjourned on Thursday without transacting any business yet again. While Lok Sabha was adjourned in view of the funeral of former President APJ Abdul Kalam's death, Rajya Sabha, too, was adjourned for a few hours and decided to meet at 2pm.
However, when the House reassembled on Thursday, Opposition members started sloganeering against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central government. Home Minister Rajnath Singh tried to give a statement in the House on the Gurdaspur terror attack but his voice drowned in the massive uproar created by the Opposition.
During his statement, Rajnath said that government is committed to give a befitting reply to those who try to undermine India's security. "Any terror activity from across the border will be defeated. Terrorists who attacked Gurdaspur came from Pak via Ravi river, says hints from GPS. India will give a strong reply those who are engaging in terror activities from across the border," he said.
The Rajya Sabha had to adjourned for the day after the opposition parties refused to relent.
Rajnath was also scheduled to give a statement in the Lok Sabha on the terror attack but to his surprise, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned the House for the day citing the funeral of Kalam. Singh was standing on his seat, ready to give the statement when the House was adjourned.
Mahajan had referred to the Gurdaspur terrorist attack and mentioned the names of SP Baljit Singh and Home Guards Sukhdev Singh, Bodh Raj and Des Raj, who were killed in the incident, besides other civilians. "The House strongly condemns this terrorist attack," she had said.
