Patna: Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal-United leader Nitish Kumar, who is being wooed by major political parties, on Sunday denied that he or his party was in touch with the UPA or the Left parties for a post-poll alliance.
"How many times do you expect me to deny that I am in talks with the Left? I have done it more than half a dozen times already. I have neither been approached nor have I reached out to them. I am in touch with only the NDA partners," said Kumar in Patna before leaving to address an election rally of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Ludhiana.
"I am not in touch with any party. The question doesn't arise," said Kumar, whose JD-U is part of the NDA.
The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) has been wooing the JD-U as a post-poll strategy in order to reach the magic figure needed to form a new government.
Kumar also denied Left leader Prakash Karat's claim that they were in talks. "I am only in touch with the NDA allies. Neither Karat or Buddhadeb (West Bengal C M Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee) have contacted me."
Kumar was commenting on Bhattacharjee's statement that he was in touch with the Left and would go with them after the polls and CPI-M general secretary Karat reaching out to him.
He refused to speculate on what the NDA’s plan would be if it is not able to get enough seats in Parliament to form a government.
"So I am saying it is no use of making predictions about the outcome of elections now. We should wait till the results are out," he said.
Kumar refused answer questions on his sharing the stage with Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in Ludhiana.
