New Delhi: BJP leader Varun Gandhi who had been in jail for the last 20 days, walked out on parole from Etah jail on Thursday evening.
He had been booked under National Security Act (NSA) and the Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati was largely alleged to have played a role in the developments of action against him.
Speaking from the state capital Lucknow, Mayawati spoke on the issue. Varun was granted parole earlier in the day by the Supreme Court.
"If Varun Gandhi, despite giving an undertaking behaves like Kalyan Singh, then strict action will be initiated against him," Mayawati said.
Kalyan Singh was the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh when the Babri Masjid was demolished.
Varun left the Etah jail with his mother Maneka Gandhi. Hundreds of BJP supporters turned out to welcome their hero but Varun didn’t address them. He's likely to file his nomination from Pilibhit on the April 21, 2009.
