Ranchi: With the Jharkhand electorate voting a BJP-led alliance to power, Chief Minister Hemant Soren tendered his resignation on Tuesday evening.
Soren who won from Dumka constituency met Governor Syed Ahmed at Raj Bhawan and handed over his resignation. "We have done our duty with all sincerity. We ran the government strongly. I've tendered my resignation to the Governor. We, a regional party of poor people, have our strength to the all India party," he said after stepping down from the top post.
Soren's Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has won 19 seats of the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly. BJP and its allies comfortably cross the halfway mark with 42 seats and are set to form government in the state.
