New Delhi: The rout in MCD polls could mean more than temporary humiliation for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) with many senior leaders openly criticizing the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his close aides.

Just when the counting of votes was about to begin in Delhi, Bhagwant Mann, the party’s popular face in Punjab and an MP from Sangrur, slammed the leadership for “behaving like a mohalla cricket team.”

“There is no use finding fault with the EVMs now when the party leadership committed a historic blunder with regard to the overall strategy in the elections. First, it should look within to find out reasons that stopped AAP’s march to power,” Chandigarh-based daily The Tribune quoted Mann as saying.

Kumar Vishwas, another senior AAP leader, criticized the Delhi government for accusations of corruption. “If after riding the plank of anti-corruption to form a government in Delhi, your own people indulge in corruption and if you (the leader) try to save them and issue no statements, people will question you,” Vishwas said in a veiled reference to Kejriwal.

During the MCD campaign, many AAP MLAs in Delhi were seen mocking their own party. Bawana MLA Ved Prakash, who joined BJP days before MCD polls said, “I joined the AAP with a hope that there will be some change, but I am disillusioned.

Bijwasan MLA Colonel Devinder Sehrawat said, “The local leadership is not allowed to flourish. MLAs cut sorry figures before the public. Kejriwal is proving himself to be a worse dictator than Mayawati.”

Seema Kaushik, vice president of the party’s women’s wing switched over to Congress and said, “Genuine and committed workers of the AAP were suffering because of corruption in the top leadership”.
