'FDI in retail to be Congress' plank in UP poll'
"We will make it an issue. It is in favour of farmers," Digvijaya Singh said.

New Delhi: Unfazed by the fierce opposition attack, Congress will utilise the FDI in retail issue in Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections to project that its detractors "do not have the intersts of farmers at heart", party General Secretary Digvijaya Singh said on Wednesday.

Singh made light of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati's ambition to become Prime Minister alleging BSP government at the Centre would 'cause havoc' in the country as had happened in Uttar Pradesh "where the situation has turned from bad to worse".

"We will make it an issue. It is in favour of farmers", said Singh when asked whether the FDI in retail issue will be among its poll campaign themes in UP.

Detractors of Congress--BSP, SP and BJP--have been sharply critical of FDI in retail and training their guns at the ruling party at the Centre for the move. The decision has landed the government into problem with some of the allies

like Trinamool Congress also seeking a roll back.
