Kolkata: Putting Mamata Banerjee to shame, her nephew and Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee sparked a controversy by saying that the West Bengal Chief Minister was responsible for killing Naxal leader Kishanji.
Abhishek was speaking at a public meeting in Belpahari in West Midnapore which is in the heart of the Junglemahal region that was once Naxal-dominated.
"One of the biggest success of Mamata government is that we have killed Kishenji. That is because if any one lifts arms for violence he shall be treated this way. One should only lift arms for the protection of one's own country" Banerjee said.
His statement comes as a major embarrassment for the CM who has always maintained that Kishneji was killed in an encounter. Her government has faced several accusations in the past of staging the encounter.
Kishenji was allegedly shot dead after a gunfight on November 24, 2011, soon after Mamata took charge as the Chief Minister. Following the incident, there were allegations that the Naxal leader was killed in a staged encounter.
