Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar files nomination for Rajya Sabha polls from UP
The former Goa CM was inducted into the Union Cabinet on Sunday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi expanded his Council of Ministers.

New Delhi: Former Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar who took charge as the Union Defence Minister on Monday filed his nomination papers for upcoming Rajya Sabha elections from Uttar Pradesh.

Talking to the reporters after filing nomination papers, Parrikar said, "I am proud to have filed my nomination from Uttar Pradesh. I assure you that I will serve the country to the best of my abilities."

The former Goa CM was inducted into the Union Cabinet on Sunday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi expanded his Council of Ministers.

When asked about his new portfolio, Parrikar said he needed some time to go through his new profile. "I was given my portfolio last night. The relations that we have with our neighbours is very sensitive. It will take me a while to study my department," he said.
