CVC KV Chowdary refutes allegations by senior lawyers, says he will let his work do the talking
Jethmalani had written a letter to President Pranab Mukherjee to not approve the appointment.

New Delhi: Newly appointed Chief Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) KV Chowdary is facing a lot of opposition in light of corruption allegations levelled against him. He was appointed as CVC on Monday, a week after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge recommended his name.

Senior lawyer Ram Jethmalani had criticised the Narendra Modi government's decision to appoint KV Chowdary as the CVC saying that if the need be, he will challenge the appointment in the Supreme Court. Jethmalani had written a letter to President Pranab Mukherjee to not approve the appointment.

"CVC should be a man of unimpeachable integrity and Chowdary doesn't satisfy that description. There is evidence of enquiries against Chowdary and will provide evidence if the Prime Minister asks for it. The Prime Minister should ask me, I have written to the President, it's their duty to talk to me. The appointment is important and it's a subject to decision of court. This matter will be thrashed out in the Court," Jethmalani had said.

While speaking to CNN-IBN's Arunoday Mukharji, Chowdary said he has not sought any legal recourse as of now and will prove his work.

Here is the full transcript of the show:

Arunoday: I have to ask, how do you respond to the kind of criticism that has also, you know, surrounded your appointment?

KV Chowdary: I do not want to get into individual allegations made by eminent persons. This is a democratic country, and we are entitled to have our own views. I'm clear in my mind and heart that I have not done anything wrong. The govt and the competent authority have obviously taken note of these issues before they finalized the appointment. I will live up to my expectation and I will do my best.

Arunoday: And why do you think these allegations are coming up, sir? Do you think this is simply political- the allegations are only political?

KV Chowdary: It is not for me to speculate

Arunoday: Do you think, somewhere, at some level, these kind of allegations, are always going to cast a shadow over the kind of work that is carried out by your post?

KV Chowdary: Certainly not,.because allegations will be made, it is only that now it has come out in the press by a few individuals. Even when we work in smaller charges right as an ITO, something or the other is said about the work of the officers, either by colleagues or by SSCs, or by the others, but that should not deter us. Merely because somebody makes an allegation, my view of the matter is not going to change. I go by the record, I go by my rules book.

Arunoday: Are you personally resorting to any legal opinion as far as the allegations are concerned?

KV Chowdary: No. As of now, I have not thought of it. I don't think I will do such kind of step. As I told, I am a career bureaucrat, I would like to go ahead with my work. I'm sure. I would like to prove with my work to whoever are my critics.

What's your reaction?
