New Delhi: CPI-M politburo on Monday warned Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan for his open comments on the ADB loan issue.

The party also openly criticised Finance Minister T M Thomas Issac and Local Self-Governance Minister Paloli Mohammed Kutty on the same issue.

Party general secretary Prakash Karat reported the politburo's decisions to party office-bearers at a regional meeting.

Local committee secretaries, area committee and district committee members attended the meeting, held against the backdrop of factionalism and differences in the party over the ADB loan issue and other ideological questions.

The first zonal meeting was held at Kochi in the morning, followed by the regional meeting. Another meeting would be held at Kozhikode on January 24, party sources said.

Achuthanandan had taken the stand that the agreement to avail ADB loan for five city corporations was signed without discussions in the Cabinet, while Issac and Mohammed Kutty

said the issue was discussed at various levels before.

After the state committee meeting last week, Karat had openly chided Achuthanandan and his two colleagues for airing divergent views on the ADB issue publicly.

However, the party had found that the ADB agreement was signed without proper discussion in the Cabinet.
