New Delhi: A fledgeling revival in the Congress party’s fortunes has undone the AAP, which in 2015 benefited from the rout of the Grand Old Party.
In 2015 Delhi Assembly polls, the AAP won 54.34% votes, which gave it 67 of the 70 seats. In the MCD polls, its vote share in each of the three corporations slid to around half that figure.
Congress, which was reduced to 9% vote share in 2015 Assembly polls, has won more than 20% votes in all the three corporations.
The caveat here is that the comparison being made is between the MCD polls 2017 and the Assembly elections 2015. Since this is the first civic election that the AAP is contesting, there cannot be a like-to-like comparison.
In each of the municipal corporations, the combined vote share of the Congress and the AAP is more than the BJP, which underlines the slide in the AAP’s vote share.
