Cong, BJP MPs clash in Parl over Sonia slur
The members of the Congress retaliated as the BJP members shouted slogans against Sonia Gandhi.

New Delhi: Members from the treasury benches on Wednesday stormed the well in the Rajya Sabha after BJP members dragged UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi's name while heckling Home Minister P Chidambaram.

In the midst of the BJP members shouting slogans against Sonia and retaliation by the Congress members, Chairman Hamid Ansari was forced to adjourn the House for about 15 minutes towards the fag end of Question Hour.

The trouble started when Chidambaram stood up to answer supplementary to a question related to fire safety. The moment he started speaking, BJP members were on their feet demanding his resignation. Some of them rushed into the well shouting slogans forcing the Home Minister to sit.

The NDA constituents, alleging that Chidambaram had a role in 2G spectrum scam and misused office while helping his former hotelier client, have been boycotting him in Parliament.

Sensing the mood, Ansari asked for skipping the second supplementary to the question leading to normalcy. Peace was, however, short-lived as trouble erupted again when the Home Minister stood up to answer another supplementary to a question pertaining to women trafficking. BJP members were at it again when Chidambaram went on to reply not one but two supplementaries to this question. This infuriated BJP members who shouted slogans in the well against Chidambaram and also the Congress President.

Angry Congress members retaliated by rushing to the well, leading to more chaos. Amid din, the Chairman adjourned the House till noon.
