Sivaganga: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram owns assets worth over Rs 10 crore and his wife has properties and deposits of about Rs 11.40 crore, the Congress politician declared in his election affidavit on Thursday.
Chidambaram, in his affidavit filed along with his nomination for the Sivaganga Lok Sabha seat in Tamil Nadu, declared he owns a coffee estate worth Rs 85.18 lakh in Kodagu district of Karnataka. He has Rs 2.5 lakh cash and Rs 3.33 crore deposits in banks, financial institutions and non-banking financial companies (NBFC).
Chidambaram, a lawyer, has declared Rs 5.3 crore as other assets such as values of claims and interests.
He has bonds, debentures and shares in companies for Rs 5.74 lakh and invested Rs 4.32 lakh in financial instruments such as NSS, Postal Savings and LIC policies among others.
He owns two cars, a Ford Fiesta valued at Rs 4.73 lakh and a Skoda worth Rs 6.57 lakh, and possesses gold and diamond jewellery worth around Rs 89,000.
The Home Minister said there were no pending cases against him and declared that his wife Nalini, a lawyer, owns assets to the tune of around Rs 11.40 crore.
She has Rs 3.26 crore as bank and NBFC deposits, Rs 52 lakh worth bonds, debentures and shares in companies and other NSS and Postal Savings and LIC policies among others.
She had property such as land and commercial buildings worth Rs 7.62 crore while Chidambaram's Hindu Undivided Family (HUF) owned movable and immovable property are worth Rs 4.58 crore.
