Kolkata: Trinamool Congress MLA and former minister Madan Mitra might be shifted to another state by the Special Crime branch of CBI probing the multi-crore Saradha ponzi scam. "We may decide to shift Madan Mitra to another state.
A decision which is yet to be taken," a CBI source investigating the scam said. Mitra, who was arrested by the agency last December, is currently lodged in Alipore central correctional home after his bail was rejected by Calcutta High Court recently.
To a query, he said "it is not a question whether we are happy or not happy by keeping Mitra here. We are very professional in our approach and do what is required as per law". "We were not happy when Mitra was granted bail by a lower court for which the high court was moved instantly," he said. During his confinement since December, Mitra spent most of the time in a state-run hospital before his short-lived bail citing various ailments.
However, doubts were raised about his illness as he was discharged the next day after he got the bail and declared medically fit by the hospital authorities. The source said that if CBI at all decided to shift Mitra from West Bengal, then that would be for getting more disclosures about his alleged involvement in the scam.
CBI had also named Mitra as a major beneficiary in the supplementary chargesheet which it had submitted in the court. Meanwhile, CBI has summoned Trinamool Congress state general secretary Shankudeb Panda for interrogation regarding the Saradha scam on Friday.
