Guwahati: The police on Tuesday prevented BJP workers belonging to its Patacharkuchi unit from ransacking and locking up the party's office in Guwahati.
Police sources said the workers were angry over their party's alliance with regional party AGP for the coming Assembly poll in Assam.
The agitators, mostly local-level BJP leaders, told reporters that newly-inducted leader Himanta Biswa Sarma, who was formerly with Congress, was to blame for the alliance which was "in his own political interest".
BJP's chief ministerial candidate Sarbananda Sonowal told reporters later, he has urged his party men to set aside differences and work unitedly in the party's interest. Assam is slated to go to polls in two phases - April 4 and 11 - for its 126-seat Assembly.
