BJP MP Shanta Kumar writes to Amit Shah, says scam-hit party needs ethics committee
Kumar said, "The party has been hit by various scams, it has made me very sad. The morale of party workers is affected by various controversies."

New Delhi: In a major embarrassment for the Bharatiya Janata Party, senior party leader Shanta Kumar wrote a letter to party President Amit Shah saying that the multi-crore Vyapam scam has dented the image of the National Democratic Alliance.

Kumar also raised concern over allegations the party is facing in the Rajasthan and Maharashtra and said it is affecting the morale of the party workers. Kumar has also called for setting up an ethics committee to act as a Lokpal to keep a check on party leaders.

Kumar said, "The party has been hit by various scams, it has made me very sad. The morale of party workers is affected by various controversies."

The remarks came ahead of the Monsoon session of Parliament and the Modi government is already facing a tough time to bring the Opposition on board in getting the key bills passed.

After the Modi government completed a year in office it was hit by controversies and scams. After External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj admitted to having no objection to former Indian Premier League chief Lalit Modi's travel request, it was revealed that Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje allegedly helped Lalit Modi to get UK stay permit.

Even before the government could reply to the Lalit Modi row, the multi-crore Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh broke out. At least 49 people have died in the high-profile scam.

The BJP government in Maharashtra is also under Opposition attack over the alleged chikki scam. Maharashtra MLA Pankaja Munde is being held accused in Rs 206 crore chikki scam. She has also been accused of awarding a contract to build dam to a private company without tender.
