Kolkata: Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) chief Bimal Gurung resigned from the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration on Friday along with 43 other members, including GJM general secretary Roshan Giri.
Gurung also announced that the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha will burn the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) agreement signed by the Congress-led UPA government and the Mamata Banerjee administration in 2011.
“I am not hiding. The police can come if they want. My people want this agitation continue,” he said, referring to the indefinite bandh called by the GJM in Darjeeling to press for a separate state of Gorkhaland.
The resignations come a day after Gurung and his wife Asha were among 40 people booked over the deaths of three GJM supporters during the recent violence in the Hills. The GJM has denied the allegations, saying the three people were killed in police firing.
"Three of our supporters were killed and they are filing cases against us. Cases should be lodged against the police and state administration for violating human rights and killing," a senior GJM leader was quoted as saying by PTI.
