The Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Bill, 2011 was passed amid walkout by the Left Front.

Kolkata: The Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Bill, 2011 was passed in West Bengal Assembly amid walkout by the Left Front. The Left MLA protested that the questions and the clarifications related to the bill raised by them were not addressed by the state government.

They walked out took after Chief Minister Mamata Bannerjee and Industry Minister Partho Chatterjee, who moved the Bill, delivered their address.

MLAs belonging to the Left Front said that passing a separate bill instead of amending the Central Land Acquisition Act would invite unnecessary complications and defeat the purpose of returning land to their owners.

Banerjee disagreed and stressed that the primary purpose of the bill is to ensure re-possessions of the land from Tata Motors and the vendors and then return it to the unwilling farmers.

The opposition demanded that no difference should be made between willing and unwilling farmers and land should be returned to all. But the Chief Minister said that that she was bound by circumstances.

Meanwhile, Tata Motors vendors are up in arms over the bill and are willing to take on the West Bengal government.

One of Tata Motors vendors, Sona Koyo said that TATAs are being compensated so should the vendors.

"The government can't get away without paying. We invested a lot of money. If required we will go to court," said Sona Koyo in a statement.
