Lucknow: The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court has refused to defer the September 24 verdict in the 60-year-old title suit Ayodhya title dispute case. The Court announced that the verdict would be announced on September 24 while dismissing three petitions asking for postponement of the verdict.
The first petition had been filed by Ramesh Chandra Tripathi asking to defer the verdict in view of reports in the media that the pronouncement might disturb communal harmony and lead to violence. The second petition had been moved by a group of eminent citizens of Lucknow who wanted the verdict postponed keeping in mind security and prestige of the country for Commonwealth Games.
The third petition was filed by Nirmohi Akhara, a Hindu charitable trust and one of the original contestants to the Ram Janambhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit, on Friday asking for a time of 10 days to reach a compromise formula on the dispute.
The judges asked the parties whether they were interested in going for any discussion for a compromise and none of them showed interest. Following this, the court rejected the petition for deferring the judgement.
The High Court also imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on Tripathi.
"Petition of RC Tripathi cannot be challenged in higher court. The court wanted to know if any party was willing for postponement but no party wanted a postponement," said lawyer RN Pandey.
"We filed objection on Tripathi's application. Tripathi's mindset is unstable. He is not of sound mind. His application is not clear. It has been filed to create the disturbance," said Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha lawyer Ranjana Agnihotri.
Another Hindu Mahasabha lawyer Ajay Singh said that the objection could not be raised as the date has been declared and no one had any right to interfere.
"It's (petition) only to disgrace the judiciary," said Singh.
Hindu Mahasabha and the Wakf Board are the two other petitioners along with Nirmohi Akhara in the title suit case. Objections were filed on Thursday by Sunni Central Board of Wakf and the Hindu Mahasabha before Court against any deferment of the verdict.
A three-judge bench comprising of Justice SU Khan, Justice Sudhir Agarwal, Justice DV Sharma will deliver the verdict at 3:30 PM on September 24.
