New Delhi: Even as internal conflicts within the Aam Aadmi Party begin to come to the fore, former party member and now a Bharatiya Janata Party member Shazia ilmi trained guns at her former colleagues claiming that there is a dearth of transparency within the party. "There is absence of internal democracy in AAP. Bhushan and Yadav are very senior, what they are saying is right. There is no transparency in the party, there is nepotism," she alleged.
Her comments came after the widening rift within the AAP is in the open. According to sources, Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan are likely to be dropped from the party's Political Affairs Committee. The decision in this respect is due to be taken at AAP's national executive meet on the March 4 where both Yadav and Bhushan will participate.
Bhushan could be expelled for leaking a letter he had written seeking structural changes within the party. The letter also indicts the party for becoming a one man show.
Meanwhile, party leader Sanjay Singh said that such unwarranted allegations demoralise the party cadre and damage the party's reputation. "It is known who leaked the letter and to benefit whom and that attempts are being made to remove Arvind Kejriwal as AAP's national convenor," he said.
AAP leader Ashutosh made a jibe at both Bhushan and Yadav tweeting that it's a clash between the ultra left who demand referendum in Kashmir and pragmatic politics of welfarism.
Yogendra Yadav had earlier in the day rubbished alegations as baseless controversies and added that the party should not stoop to petty gestures. "Since the last two days, there have been news about me and Prashant Bhushan. Baseless allegations are being made, conspiracy is been found. Sometimes I laugh and sometimes I feet upset, those who have created such stories have less time and more imagination. I feel upset and sad with such stories. After this big a win, we need to set aside the petty things and work with a big heart," he tweeted.
Commenting on the issue, Bhushan said that it is the party's internal matter. "These are internal party matters and will not speak on them in public forum. I wrote a letter to the National Executive to bring about structural changes in the party. It should not be seen as a revolt," he said.
There were reports that Bhushan in his letter to the National Executive raised questions on transparency within the party. According to reports, both leaders have offered to opt out of political affairs committee of the party, headed by Kejriwal.
Bhushan said the 'one person-centric' campaign was making the party look like other conventional parties and called for more "swaraj" within the organisation. "One person-centric campaign, which was run during Delhi elections, is making our party look more and more like other conventional parties that are also one-person centric. The only difference being that we still claim that we are wedded to the principles of 'swaraj' while they don't.
"Running one person-centric campaign may be effective, but does that justify sacrificing our principles? We will need to make a conscious course correction if we have to get away from a supremo controlled party," Bhushan said in a letter to members of AAP National Executive, which met last Thursday.
