New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party leaders on Monday evening met Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung to discuess the possibilities of government formation in Delhi. Following the stand of BJP and Congress, AAP also favoured fresh polls in the national capital.
Earlier on Monday Congress who is looking forward to improve its fortune in Delhi, had conveyed to the Lieutenant Governor their desire for fresh elections in the national capital. Senior Congress leader Haroon Yusuf on Monday said that people in Delhi are suffering because of the absence of a government. "Both the Bharatiya Janata Party and Aam Aadmi Party were trying to form the government through different means. We told the L-G that we want fresh elections. The house should be dissolved and elections should be held," Yusuf said.
BJP leaders also met the L-G on Monday morning and said that even they were desirous of the same.
After all the parties denied government formation all eyes are on Jung who will send a report to President of India.
The L-G had invited the AAP, BJP and Congress leaders to discuss government formation in the national capital. BJP is the single largest party and the L-G has been exploring options to invite it to form the government. After its success in the neighbouring state of Haryana, the BJP is confident of forming a majority government in Delhi.
In the 70-member Delhi Assembly, BJP and its ally hold 29 seats. AAP is the second largest party with 27 MLAs and Congress occupies just 8 seats. Delhi has been under President's Rule since February after Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government stepped down after remaining in power for 49 days.
