New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi held public meetings in six constituencies as part of its participatory budgeting exercise, in which people demanded for civic amenities in their area.

Public meetings were held at various locations of Tilak Nagar, Dwarka, Chattarpur, Karawal Nagar, Okhala and Bawana Assembly constituencies.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had on April 19 launched "People's Budget (Janata ka Budget)" initiative, as part of decentralisation of decision-making process, from Patparganj constituency to seek views of the voters on the budget and include their feasible demands on priority.

People in all the areas demanded for civic amenities like sewage, clean and uniform water supply, cleanliness, maintenance and repair of roads and park.

But, a large number of people also demanded for installation of CCTV cameras for better security, sterilisation of dogs, closure on liquor store and putting up of water harvesting to save water.

"People in large number turned-up for Janata ka Budget held at 10 locations in Tilak Nagar constituency. Apart for local civic issues voters from my area demanded for CCTV cameras. In urban pockets, people asked us to come up with water harvesting so that water can be restored and reused," Jarnail Singh, MLA from Tilak Nagar said.

People in Dwarka, who are facing acute water crisis, demanded for regular supply of water and asked the government to keep a check on stray dog menace by sterilising them.

At some places, where the public meeting was held during afternoon, saw low turnout due to heat. Taking it into account, the government was considering to hold public meetings early in the day, which are proposed next weekend.

According to government officials, an estimate is being made on the basis of voting on top issues of concern and the final budget was expected to be presented in Delhi Assembly in the first week of June.
