KOCHI: The election scene at Piravom is heating up. After a short interval on Tuesday owing to the national strike called by trade unions, UDF candidate Anoop Jacob and LDF candidate M J Jacob resumed active  campaigning on Wednesday. The scrutiny of nominations will be carried out on Thursday in the presence of the Returning Officer at 11 a.m. Candidates can withdraw their  nominations till 3 p.m. on Saturday.A final picture on the candidates will be available only after this. Candidates will be issued symbols on Saturday itself, said the election officials. During the scrutiny of nominations, only four people - the candidate, his agent, nominator and advocate or representative of the candidate - will be allowed entry. General Observervisits constituencyUmakanth Panwar, the General Observer appointed for Piravom bypolls by the    Central Election Commission visited the constituency on Wednesday. Panwar first visited the Pambakkuda Block Development office, where the candidates submit their nominations, and reviewed its functioning. Assistant Returning Officer M Aravindakshan Nair briefed the observer about the activities. Assistant Collector Bhandari Swagath Ranveerchand also accompanied Umakanth Panwar. On reaching the Collectorate, the general observer also held discussions with Additional District Magistrate (ADM) E K Sujatha, Election Deputy Collector S Shahnawas and Returning Officer E R Sobhana. Election Expenditure Observer K Beera Bhadra Reddy also visited the constituency on Wednesday.  The media assessment council for reviewing paid news, reports and advertisements in connection with the election has been reconstituted as per the directions of the Election Commission. The committee will be chaired by ADM E K Sujatha.
