Ishan Sharma and Pathan Moin Khan, students of the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Lucknow will be conferred gold medals at the convocation ceremony of the institute today, December 12. While Ishan, who hails from Bulandshahr is a student of BTech Information Technology, Pathan Moin Khan is a BTech Computer Science student at the IIIT and hails from Tenali in Andhra Pradesh, reported Times of India.
President Droupadi Murmu is set to award the students who belong to the economically weaker section (EWS) and joined the institute by taking an educational loan. President Murmu, who will be the chief guest on the occasion, is set to confer seven gold, silver, and bronze medals to meritorious students.
“It was my dream to study at IIIT-L as it is known globally for its coding culture. I got admission under the EWS category as my father is a clerk in the government department,” Ishan told the publication. Ishan added that he took an education loan to study at the IIIT. He wanted to study at the institute as it allowed him to do a paid internship at a renowned cab service provider. “I paid a few installments of my loan from my internship money while the remaining I will pay once I join Google as a software engineer,” he added. He dedicated the medal to his mother Neha and father SK Sharma.
Pathan, who will also be conferred gold medal said, “My father works as a goldsmith hence it was not at all possible for us to afford the BTech fee. I took an education loan. It was IIIT-L coding culture that brought me here.”
“In the fourth year of the course I spent most of the time doing paid internships so that I could support my family financially. Now since I have bagged a job in a leading multinational I will be able to pay my loan. I dedicate my medals to my parents and IIIT-L teachers,” Pathan told the publication.
