The campus placement drive across IITs is underway. A total of students of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar have received 200 job offers in the first 10 days of the campus placement. Till now, the highest placement offer made to a student this year is Rs 64 lakh per annum, the placement officer said. It is also the highest package ever received during the IIT’s placement drive, reported Times of India. IIT Bhubaneswar has conducted 12 placement drives since 2012.
“This year, BPCL, HPCL, Reliance Industries, Oracle, Microsoft, Google, Accenture Japan, Salesforce and several Fortune 500 companies are participating in the placement drive, providing the students a vast array of opportunities,” Arun Kumar Pradhan, head of the institute’s career development cell told the publication.
“Even though the global business scenario has slowed down affecting placements across the country, the drive at IIT Bhubaneswar is encouraging and gaining momentum,” he added.
A slight downward trend is expected this year when it comes to the number of recruiters participating in the IIT campus placements amid predictions of a global economic slowdown. While the first-generation IITs are expecting a good season, the second and third-generation IITs say not many international firms have come out so far and are in the “wait and watch” mode.
“Companies have been registering and a number of students have already been handed out PPOs, there might be some caution that the international firms may be exercising, as there have been predictions of a slowdown globally. Despite that, the big tech companies always hire from IITs even if the number of offers made is somewhat less in a given year,” a faculty member associated with the placement cell at one of the older IITs told News18.com.
Meanwhile, IIT Bhubaneswar students have bagged four international offers, the institute said. The placements at IIT Bhubaneswar began on December 1 and will conclude in July next year.
