Sri Lanka dished out a clinical performance to beat England by 8 wickets and keep their ICC ODI World Cup 2023 semifinal hopes alive, while the defending champions are on the cusp of a group stage exit.
Having won the toss, Jos Buttler chose to bat first on a flat track at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, but they could muster up 156 runs on the board. Lahiru Kumara picked up three wickets, as England had an outing to forget with Ben Stokes their highest run scorer at 43. In reply, Sadeera Samarawickrama scored 65 runs while Pathum Nissanka scored 77 to take Sri Lanka over the line.
The win takes Sri Lanka to fifth place in the World Cup points table, while there is no Sri Lankan batter in the golden bat race, Dilshan Madushanka rose to fourth place in the golden ball standings. Madushanka has 11 wickets from four matches, and he’s level with India’s Jasprit Bumrah.

South African phenom Quinton de Kock continues to lead the charts for the golden bat list, De Kock has 407 runs in five games, while Virat Kohli is in second place with 354 runs from five outings. David Warner is third on the list with 332 runs to his name, whereas Indian captain Rohit Sharma is fourth with 311 runs to his name. Pakistan’s Muhammad Rizwan rounds off the top five with 302 runs to his tally.
Sri Lanka’s Sadeera Samarawickrama has jumped to sixth place with 295 runs to his name from five games.
New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra, South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen, Kiwi batter Daryl Mitchell, and Proteas star Aiden Markram close out the top ten in the Cricket World Cup golden bat list.

In terms of the golden ball race, Australia spinner Adam Zampa is at the top of the pile with 13 wickets in five games, and New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner is second with 12 scalps. Bumrah is in third place while Madushanka is in fourth place.
New Zealand’s Matt Henry is in fifth place with 10 wickets followed by Kagiso Rabada who also has ten scalps, level with Shaheen Afridi of Pakistan, and Marco Jansen as well as Gerald Coetzee. New Zealand’s Bas de Leede is tenth in the most wickets tally with nine strikes to his name.
