Calcutta HC judge Justice Abhijit Ganguly, who had ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the teachers’ recruitment scam in West Bengal last year, has said he will resign from his post on Tuesday.
The judge hinted at joining politics, without mentioning the name of any political party and expressed interest in working for the common people.
“I would like to enter the political arena to work towards the betterment of the common people and address grassroots issues. That journey starts on Tuesday,” the judge told a Bengali news outlet.
Clearing the air on speculations about him contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, he said he hadn’t decided about it.
“Have not taken decisions regarding my candidature for Lok Sabha polls, but I would like to thank the ruling party in West Bengal (Trinamool Congress) for challenging me to enter the political field,” the judge told Live Law.
Justice Ganguly had irked the Supreme Court last year by his remarks on a TV interview relating to the Bengal school job-for-bribe case, a matter he was hearing at that point in time.
