Rahul Dravid and his coaching team are about to complete their tenure as they were contracted until the ODI World Cup 2023. Had India lost the semi-final to New Zealand on Wednesday, not only the fans would have suffered a heartbreak but the coaching staff would have bowed out with unpleasant memories. But their contracts will now end on November 19.
According to Cricbuzz, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to discuss the future of Team India’s coaching staff. Dravid and his support staff had contracts up to the World Cup Since the team has exhibited imperious dominance in the tournament, an extension or contract renewal could be on the cards. However, it will be interesting to find out if Dravid is willing to continue.

The report further stated that Dravid’s colleagues – batting coach Vikram Rathour, fielding coach T Dilip and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey – are likely to be offered extensions.
It has been learned that a few BCCI officials had reservations with Dravid’s style of coaching Team India. In fact, people close to the former Indian captain even suggested him to voluntarily step down from his post following the debacle in the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final. But Dravid chose to focus on the job at hand. Also, the team’s exceptional performance in the World Cup may have altered the perceptions of Dravid’s superiors in the board.
Laxman likely to be the coach for Australia T20Is
India will host Australia for 5 T20Is post World Cup, starting November 23, which is likely to see NCA chief VVS Laxman stepping into the shoes of the head coach. This will also give the BCCI some time to take a call on the future of Dravid and his team.
T20 squad yet to be announced
The BCCI hasn’t revealed the squad for the Australia T20Is. In most likelihood, the announcement will take place on November 20, a day after the World Cup final.
Earlier, news agency PTI reported that Hardik Pandya, who has been leading the side in the shortest format lately, is unlikely to be available for 5-match series against the Aussies. The star all-rounder will require more time to recover from his left ankle ligament tear.
