The rising popularity of Jawan has created a huge rise in pirated content with clips and the film being leaked across various platforms. To tackle the issue, Shah Rukh Khan‘s Red Chillies Entertainment has taken strict disciplinary action against Individuals sharing the clips or uploading it across social media platforms. Multiple anti-piracy agencies have been hired by the production house to track down individuals and groups aggressively, who are then reported to the police to take criminal action for spreading piracy.
On Wednesday, September 13, criminal complaints were also filed against individuals identified for sharing pirated film content via WhatsApp and other platforms.
“We have already tracked down pirated accounts run by individuals across various platforms, criminal and civil action is being initiated against them for releasing pirated content of the film Jawan. Piracy is a huge issue faced by the film industry at large and undermines the hard work of thousands of people associated with the film. Such acts of illegally recording and leaking, amounts to cheating, theft, and infringement or violation of intellectual property,” a source cited by the production house said.
The production house has found that the nature of the pirated content infringement clearly indicates that it was unlawfully accessed and stolen by persons who are distributing the same illegally for monetary gains. Further, such an act would not have been possible without entering into a criminal conspiracy by the accused. Hence criminal action will be taken against individuals and groups.
In April this year, the Delhi High Court had also directed social media platforms, ‘shady’ websites, cable TV outlets, direct-to-home services, and other platforms to remove the leaked videos of Jawan and urged them to stop their circulation. This had come after Red Chillies Entertainment, a production house owned by Shah Rukh Khan and his wife Gauri Khan, had filed a lawsuit in court.
During the shooting of Jawan too, Red Chillies Entertainment banned mobile phones and recording devices on sets. This was done to avoid any leaks.
Written and directed by Atlee, Jawan stars Shah Rukh Khan, Nayanthara, Ridhi Dogra and Vijay Sethupathi in key roles. Deepika Padukone also plays an extended cameo in the movie. The film has earned over Rs 350 crore at the box office as of now.
