Director James Gunn’s upcoming film Superman: Legacy has sent ripples across the masses, especially DC lovers. Not Henry Cavill, but this time actor David Corenswet will play the titular superhero character. While fans are excited to watch Corenswet step into the shoes of Superman, there has been a significant buzz surrounding who will play the film’s villain aka Lex Luthor. But now, much to the excitement of movie enthusiasts, James Gunn has finally revealed the name of the person who will breathe life into the character of Lex Luthor. In an elaborate Instagram post, Gunn announced The Great actor Nicholas Hoult as the new supervillain of Superman: Legacy.
Sharing a picture with Nicholas Hoult on Instagram, James Gunn wrote, “Yes, finally I can answer, Nicholas Hault is Lex Luthor in Superman Legacy and I couldn’t be happier. We went out to dinner last night to celebrate and discuss how we can create a Lex that will be different from anything you’ve seen before and will never forget. ‘But, James, we heard this weeks ago, why didn’t you tell us it was true?’ Because, although we were discussing it, it wasn’t final until a couple of days ago and I don’t want to tell you all something that isn’t certain. Anyway, here’s to Lex (and Nicholas!), one of my very favourite characters in the DCU.”

The photograph captured James Gunn and Nicholas Hoult posing together with beaming smiles on their faces. Hoult was dressed in a charcoal black T-shirt that he layered with a black denim jacket and a cap. On the other hand, Gunn donned a brown T-shirt and matching jacket that he coupled with a pair of spectacles.
Soon after the announcement, DC fans were quick to mark their presence in the comments, reacting to the news. While one user exclaimed, “Now THAT is genius casting. Can’t wait for this” another claimed, “So well deserved!! Go Nick”. “He is such a tour de force actor! Became a huge fan after his unhinged performance in The Great. So good! Congrats,” noted a third individual.
Apart from David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult, Superman: Legacy also stars Nathan Fillion, Edi Gathegi, Isabela Merced, and Rachel Brosnahan in important roles. The film will revolve around Corenswet’s Superman aka Clark Kent in his younger days as a reporter at the Daily Planet and Metropolis’ budding superhero. Superman: Legacy will hit the silver screens on July 11, 2025.
