Delhi-Vadodara by Road to Take Just 10 Hours Now, PM Modi to Inaugurate Delhi-Mumbai Expressway Stretch
With Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to inaugurate the second stretch of the Delhi-Mumbai expressway up to Gujarat, a road trip between Delhi and Vadodara would take less time than the fastest train on the route

Starting today, the road journey time between Delhi and Vadodara will be down to 10 hours, lower than the fastest train on the route, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to inaugurate the second stretch of the Delhi-Mumbai expressway up to Gujarat.

The Mumbai Central Tejas Rajdhani, the fastest train between Delhi and Vadodara, takes around 10 hours and 45 minutes, while other trains take between 12 and 15 hours.

Passing through Sohna, Dausa, Lalsot Sawai Madhopur, Kota, Ratlam Dahod and Godhra, the new expressway will almost halve the travel time between Delhi and Vadodara, which earlier took around 18-20 hours depending on the route. Currently, there are two direct routes to reach Vadodara from Delhi – one via Jaipur, Bhilwara and Udaipur, and another via Laxmangarh, Lalsot and Kota. The Jaipur-Udaipur route is slightly shorter and takes around 17 hours.

As per the earlier routes, the distance between the two cities via road was more than 1,000km, but with the new expressway, the distance will come down to just 845km.

The Delhi-Vadodara section of the expressway, built at a cost of around Rs 12,000 crore, passes through Haryana (79km) and the poll-bound states of Rajasthan (373km), and Madhya Pradesh (244km). The Sohna-Dausa section of the Delhi-Mumbai expressway is already functional.

“It is an access-controlled expressway and cars can run at a speed of 120 kmph. This eight-lane e-way will allow a smooth flow of traffic. It is going to ease the journey between the two cities while offering better connectivity to Jaipur, Kota, Chittorgarh, Indore, Ujjain, Bhopal, and Ahmedabad,” a Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) official told News18.

News18 had reported on August 23 that the Madhya Pradesh stretch of the Delhi-Mumbai expressway will be the ruling BJP’s showpiece project ahead of Assembly elections this year.

The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway

Expecting to reduce the travel time between national capital Delhi and financial capital Mumbai to just 12 hours, the 1,386-km Delhi-Mumbai expressway will be ready by February 2024.

The Delhi-Mumbai expressway will connect Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra. It is being developed at a cost of around Rs 1 lakh crore.

The e-way will halve the travel time between Delhi and Mumbai to 12 hours and will also shorten the distance by nearly 200 km.

The 246-km Sohna-Dausa-Lalsot section was inaugurated on February 12. It was developed at a cost of over Rs 12,150 crore. With this, the travel time between Delhi and Jaipur came down to around 3.5 hours from five hours earlier.

According to the ministry, the e-way will generate annual fuel savings of more than 320 million litres and reduce CO2 emissions by 850 million kg, which is equivalent to planting 40 million trees.
